Sharjah: A Rising Star Among Indian Tourists

Sharjah, one of the seven emirates in the UAE, is rapidly emerging as a top destination for Indian travelers. At a recent roadshow hosted by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) in Mumbai, Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, the Chairman of SCTDA, highlighted the region’s impressive advancements, particularly in adventure tourism and eco-tourism, which are gaining popularity.

A key attraction is the Hanging Garden, featuring expansive green areas, flower-adorned terraces, and serene waterfalls. Open from September to May, the garden has become a favorite among Indian tourists. Additionally, a stunning artificial lagoon has been developed near the garden, offering various activities for visitors.

Sharjah’s development is happening in phases. The first phase connected the area to the city with a world-class road. Currently, there are plans to focus on building hotels, with Sharjah offering around 11,000 rooms, and a push to expand.

In terms of growth, Sharjah is targeting a 10% increase in Indian visitors this year, aiming for 185,000 Indian travelers. In the first half of 2024 alone, 94,000 Indians have already visited, showing promising signs for the emirate’s tourism goals.

Looking to the future, Sharjah is set to become even more accessible with a major expansion of its international airport, increasing capacity from 8 million to 25 million passengers by 2026. With its combination of eco-friendly tourism, expanding amenities, and strategic development, Sharjah is fast becoming a go-to destination for Indian tourists.

If you’re looking for a fresh, eco-conscious, and adventure-packed destination, Sharjah might just be the place to explore next!
